Fois Na Mara

Sarah & Darren Watts - Owners

Sarah & Darren Sarah is originally from Kendal in the North West of England and Darren is from Matamata (aka Hobbiton)........

We met in Hamilton whilst I, Sarah, was on a working holiday. After a few years dating we made the move to Dunedin together. Living out on the Peninsula, we fell in love with it and made it our mission to find a place that we could share with other people. We wanted to show off, what we think, is the best part of the city.

Whilst overseas on Darren's O.E. a friend found us 335 Portobello Road and the dream started to become a reality.

Living in Edinburgh at the time, and with Dunedin's Scottish links, we couldn't help but try to name the place using Scottish Gaelic. A professor at Edinburgh University came up with 'FOIS NA MARA' - meaning sea's rest.

In 2010 we moved back to Dunedin and started to transform the former 'sleepout' into a beautiful, peaceful relaxing place to stay.

We hope you choose Fois Na Mara as your holiday destination on the Otago Peninsula. Come and share with us the small slice of heaven we have created.
